Digital Training (24)

Our streaming solution is one of the market leaders on a global scale. It will transmit 300 images/second under optimal conditions. We recommend a minimum speed of 4 GB. The better the speed, the better the image and experience of the training session, so check to see if access to broadband (stationary or wi-fi) is possible. The camera on your smartphone also plays a big part in the image quality – we recommend a minimum of a 12-megapixel camera.

Book either traditional IRL training or digital Ridesum training. Then choose what kind of training you want, for how long, and – if you want: location (for traditional IRL training).

We recommend that you give a brief intro about yourself, your horse, what you are looking for in your training and what kind of guidance you need.

Request feedback:  Specify when you need feedback at the latest, a link to your recording (uploaded to YouTube or Dropbox), phone number, email and a message with information about yourself, your horse and what specific areas you wish to receive feedback in.

Or perhaps get help with your mental coaching. Maybe you need some advice in feeding your horse from an equine nutritionist through a video session? The possibilities are endless!

Streaming with Ridesum requires a speed of 300 kbps minimum per streaming when uploading. It’s a good idea to test your uploading speed using a free speed test: http://www.speedtest.net

To generate good quality, the speed test need to show a minimum > 10,5 Mbps in upload and download.

As a trainer/expert you need a smart phone and a computer or a tablet. In your smart phone you have the mobile app, and this is where you manage your profile and your booking requests. After accepting a lesson request to coach digitally or a request to submit feedback on a video, the web app on the computer or on the tablet is where you perform these tasks (see “Trainer Log In” in the top right corner on this page) as the image is bigger and the feedback can be written with the help of a keyboard.

Live session by yourself:

  1. When you have access to TWO phones – set smartphone nr 1 on the arena short side, preferably using a tripod and login to your rider account to start your session, choose “Video and Audio”. Smartphone nr 2: log in to the mobile app with your rider account (the same acct is used for both phones) and start your session. Choose “Audio only”. Place phone nr 2 in your pocket and use a regular headset. Your trainer will watch the lesson on his/her computer/tablet and coach live via the web app.

Equipment: Rider: 2 smartphones + regular headset. Trainer: computer or tablet.

Please Note: We do not recommend Airpods/equivalent as these are not adapted for streaming during a horse riding lesson and therefore may cause the sound quality to be poor.

If you only have access to ONE phone; place your smart phone on the short side of the arena, preferably on a tripod. Log into the mobile app using your rider account and start your session, choose” video and audio”. Use a wireless Bluetooth headset with plenty of range (read more under Equipment). Your trainer will watch your lesson on his/her computer/tablet and coach live via the web app.

Equipment: Rider: smartphone + wireless headset with enough range. Trainer: computer or tablet (headset is preferable).

Please Note: We do not recommend Airpods/equivalent as these are not adapted for streaming during a horse riding lesson and therefore may cause the sound quality to be poor.

These are a few tips for the trainer/expert:

  • If you have a student that need you to be visible, make sure you are in good lighting. Avoid lighting coming from behind, and make sure it is bright enough. Webcams rarely function properly in low light. The background should be neutral as to not disturb the image.
  • We recommend using the headset, so you and your student can communicate in the best way possible. Headsets used with smartphones typically work fine but make sure the connector fits in the computer/tablet microphone opening before you start the session.

The person filming will need access to good internet, surf, a smart phone with a good camera (12 megapixels minimum), a charged battery, a tripod is preferred (not a must but makes the filming easier). A good place to film from in the arena is at either A, C, or a corner. See our checklist before starting the digital training.

If the rider’s/assistant’s image is blurred or lags this may be due to several reasons:

– The internet is not powerful enough with the rider and/or the trainer/expert.

– The camera in the phone that is used for filming is not good enough which impacts the quality of the image.

The internet is most likely not of enough quality with the rider or the trainer/expert. If it does not get better, call each other up and communicate via a regular phone call while streaming on mute.

The mobile app works with most modern smartphones. It can work with other phones than the ones we recommend, however we cannot guarantee that functionality and content are displayed correctly.

We recommend the following:

iPhone iOS 11 and later versions

iPhone 6s Plus and later versions

Android: 4.4 and later versions.

Browsers for computers and tablets (to be used by the trainer when coaching):

Chrome version 28+, Safari version 11+, Firefox version 22+. Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge should not be used as they do not support streaming.

Next to the streaming window there is a text box where you can write down your feedback during the lesson. This is visible only to you. When the lesson is over, you may edit the feedback and submit to the rider. This will be saved under “Activities” and “Feedback” in the rider account.

As the trainer/expert you may choose to turn on – or off your camera as needed. Just click on the camera icon when streaming. The phone that is filming (regardless if the student is filming on her own, or with an assistant) has a function where you can be viewed full scale on the phone screen. By using the webcam in your computer/tablet to illustrate what you need to show your student, the rider has access to this image.

Categories: Digital Training

If streaming is done with top image quality and excellent internet access, the data used is a maximum of 3 GB per hour. Less data than that is often used, however.

Search for trainers/experts in our trainer/expert pool, book a session or request feedback on recorded sessions. Train digitally via streaming and get written feedback in you Rider Profile. In the Ridesum app feed, tutorials with trainers, experts and riders are continuously published to provide motivation and knowledge. Register a profile as a trainer/expert and you will have access to riders all over both in – and out of the country. Receive booking requests, teach via a digital session, or watch a recording and supply feedback.

You can train digitally live on your own or with the help of a person that does the filming. How you choose to train is something you determine at the time of your training session.

1. Digital training with an assistant that does the filming

  • The training is filmed by an assistant that with smartphone nr 1 logs in to the mobile app using the rider account (rider + assistant log in to the same account) and starts the session, choose “Video and Audio”. The assistant may use a headset to listen in on the lesson.
  • Smartphone nr: 2 – The rider logs in to the mobile app using the rider account and starts the session, choose “Audio only”. The rider puts the phone in a pocket and uses a regular headset to both speak – and listen to the trainer.
  • The trainer watches the lesson on his/her computer/tablet and coaches live via the web app.

Equipment: Rider: smartphone + headset. Assistant: smartphone (possibly headset). Trainer: computer or tablet (headset is preferable).

2. Training digitally on your own (using TWO phones)

Live session by yourself:

a) When you have access to TWO phones – set smartphone nr 1 on the arena short side, preferably using a tripod and login to your rider account to start your session, choose “Video and Audio”.

Tip! Use a phone with the best camera when filming as it generates a better picture quality.

The coverage of different phone service providers can vary greatly depending on location – use the phone with the best coverage as this also contributes to the picture quality. Should you experience audio feedback, mute the microphone on the phone that is filming.

Training digitally on your own (using ONE phone)

b) If you only have access to ONE phone; place your smart phone on the short side of the arena, preferably on a tripod.

When training digitally, log in to Ridesum.com via computer or tablet (click on “Log in trainer” in the upper right corner). Log in using your e-mail and password (same as in the mobile app). Choose the current session and click on “Start session”. During the session you may write down your feedback in the box right next to the streaming, this may be sent to the rider right after the lesson is over. The rider will receive your feedback right as you send it. The feedback is not visible to anyone but the rider.

  1. You need the Ridesum app with a registered account and an accepted booking request from your trainer (under Activities/Coming up).
  2. Headset for your phone. If you are riding with a wireless headset, make sure to test it before your lesson.(Please Note: We do not recommend Airpods/equivalent as these are not adapted for streaming during a horse riding lesson and therefore may cause the sound quality to be poor.)
  3. Check your internet speed, needs a minimum of 300 kbps per streaming, or your image may freeze or will be choppy.
  4. Make sure your phone/phones have enough data and are fully charged.
  5. Keep the phone warm before your session and when streaming as colder temperatures tend to use up more battery. It is always a good idea to have a power bank ready or a charger on hand.
  6. Filming and streaming use up a fair bit of battery time, make sure to set the phone to power save in the settings.
  7. A pocket to place the phone in when riding.
  8. Plenty of light is needed, turn on as much light as possible if you are riding in an indoor arena or a lit outdoor.
  9. If you run in to problems, contact our customer support at hello@ridesum.seor facebook.com/ridesum. We are here for you!

  2. Check the bandwidth on your broadband (minimum 300 kb/second of streaming)
  3. Check your web browser and make sure it is compatible (see Technical requirements)
  4. Make sure the browser has access to your camera and microphone. A pop-up message will usually appear on the screen asking to allow this. Alternatively go to the settings on the computer and change it there.
  5. Close all other programs that may want to use your camera (Skype for example)
  6. If your run in to problems, contact our customer support at hello@ridesum.seor facebook.com/ridesum. We are here for you!

No, that is not possible. You need internet in order to use Ridesum.

A pocket to keep your phone in when riding is handy, as in a vest, jacket, sport bracelet or a sport waist belt. It is easier for the trainer to see your hands if you are wearing light colored gloves.
